Our super relaxing stay in Bodrum
Once again there were public holidays here in Hamburg. So we packed our bags and traveled to a very popular holiday destination in Europe: Turkey! We only had one week so we agreed on a city trip to Istanbul after some beach time in Bodrum.
If you don’t know Bodrum yet, I am sure it will be on your travel bucket list after you have seen my pictures .
Bodrum is a city at the Aegean which lies in the Mediterranean, while people refer to the whole peninsula lying west from the city as Bodrum. The city is directly located at the coast, thus offers nice beaches, a great view over the sea and a stunning marina. South and west of the city center you will find a nice promenade around the marina which invites to watching the traditional wooden yachts. Walking east from the city center you will find dozens of waterfront fish restaurants as well as many unique boutiques and shops.
The area around Bodrum is also perfect for being explored by rental car. The winding coastline offers breathtaking views on the bays and beaches. The most pristine bays are of course occupied by the best hotels, which often allow using their facilities for a daily fee. We enjoyed a few days of pure relaxation a 30 minutes drive away from Bodrum City in the Mandarin Oriental.
The Mandarin Oriental Bodrum
This luxury hotel in Bodrum offers two really wonderful beaches. As stated before, we were there in the beginning of May. This time of the year is still part of the shoulder season, but that had no negative impact on our holiday feeling, because we had the best weather, the sea was warm enough for swimming already and the first-class service and the beautiful resort made us feel like home away from home.
Beach and Sea
Both of which I could never get enough. I think our photos speak for themselves, because the two beaches and the crystal-clear, turquoise water just look gorgeous. The sea had 18 degrees celsius, which may at first feel a bit chilly. After overcoming to dip into the water it is perfect for swimming, because it is so calm in the protected bay.
During shoulder season just the Juju-Beach was opened, where you can relax at the beach or a bit offside on the pontoon. From time to time a waiter came by with a fruity melon drink… how nice! The bigger Blue Beach opens in mid of May and looks like a post card with its straw parasols.
The resort was integrated into the existing environment so well, that it creates a harmonic and natural feeling. For example there are ancient olive trees to be found everywhere, because they just built the facilities around them. Altogether the resort is full of greens and plants, while being relaxed and incredibly stylish.
If you don’t want to hang out at the beach anymore, you could just visit the nifty pool, where every finest detail is styled. If you are lucky you could relax at one of the popular cabanas.
The Mandarin Oriental Bodrum is well known for its huge and luxurious spa area. We used a rainy afternoon to check out the gym, which is vey well equipped, take a dip in the indoor pool and the steam bath. Of course there is a great choice of treatments available. In particular the spa villa for couple treatments impressed me.
Eating and Drinking
Due to the shoulder season there was just one restaurant for breakfast and dinner, the Sofra. I can only recommend the grilled octopus and lamb chops for dinner. We had lunch at the pool restaurant, where you can find some premium snacks and a very delicious ice coffee :-).
During main season there a couple more restaurants available: a Japanese, a Trattoria, various snack bars and my personal highlight: the Juju Bar. The latter is built on a pontoon directly into the say and is so so chic, that I would highly recommend the bar even if you are not a hotel guest. As the Juju Bar was still closed during our stay we enjoyed some signature cocktails at the Mandarin Bar.
WOW! When entering we instantly fell in love with our sea view room. The interior design exactly suits my taste and was comfy, too. Everything seems worthy and the mix of patterns and materials made the room look and feel very unique. In front of the room we had a huge terrace with loungers and a garden. From there as well as from the room and the bathroom there was an incredible sea view.
We absolutely enjoyed our stay in Bodrum. I highly recommend travelers to go and have a look at the area. It is only a short flight away from most european countries. If you prefer luxury and relaxation, be sure to check in to the Mandarin Oriental, where we were treated royally. Many thanks for having us.
In cooperation with Mandarin Oriental Bodrum.
