Top Things to do in Boracay, Philippines
Even if I didn’t visit the other parts of the Philippines, I am pretty sure that the small island Boracay is a definite Must-See! As professional beach-hunters we had to visit Boracay, because its beaches won several awards, like the Tripadvisor award for the best beach in Asia 2013.
How to get there
We traveled from Denpasar with Philippine Airlines directly to Manila. Normally we should have get our domestic flight to Kalibo, but Tiger Air cancelled all their flights that day. Bad for us, because we rested 12 hours at the Manila airport. After that torture, Cebu Pacific offered us another flight to Caticlan. So my advice for you: never book a Tiger Air flight, because this chaos seems pretty normal!
When you have reached Caticlan, you only have to take one of the tricycles (around 80PHP, 1,30EUR) which are standing directly in front of the small airport. This will bring you to the harbor, where you get a boat to Boracay. In Boracay you should take a tricycle for transport to your hotel.
The tricycle is a motorbike with a side car which is very common on Boracay for public transport. You can see more of it in my video.
The most visited and most famous beach of Boracay is White Beach at the west end. Here you can find many hotels, bars and restaurants. The beach is separated into three parts: station 1, 2 and 3 (I don’t know why). At station 1 you’ll find more expansive hotels and bars. Station 2 is the party and shopping area. And at station 3 you can eat and shop less expansive, it’s kind of a backpackers area.
This time we didn’t book a hotel. We decided to rent an apartment at the Bulabog Beach. The sea around this beach is very calm, blue and clear during wet season, because the wind goes around the west side of the island.
On our last day, we made a trip to the Puka Shell Beach in the north. There were so many locals around, who were playing volley ball (they did very well!), climbing on boats or swimming in the perfect sea. Our personal highlight was the dancing competition they organized this day. The 24th oh june was a public holiday and that’s why so many Filipinos were having a good time at the beach.
You really really really have to watch my video, because we filmed several scenes of the dancing competition! These guys showed some very special moves and it was so much fun to watch this fancy dancing. These people were extremely friendly and they love dancing and singing.
Best Trips to Book
Book a snorkel trip! Together with five young tourists from other countries we made a snorkel trip including lunch. The first snorkel spot was around Crocodile Island and it was very very awesome! So many colorful fishes and even sea snakes (uaaagh…). The crystal clear sea is extraordinary!
Before heading to the next snorkel spot we had lunch. The filipino family, who organized the whole trip, made a traditional philippine BBQ and it was delicious! Grilled fish, marinated chicken and a huge fruit platter with the best Mango EVER. While lunching, the Filipino-Mama 😉 took her guitar and played some songs for us and even the brazilian tourist girls were singing some traditional songs for the group. The atmosphere was great!
It’s so much fun to spent time together with people from different countries, so I am sending best regards to the two dutch girls, the two brazilian girls and to the girl of China. It was a pleasure to meet you!
So the sea at the White Beach is a bit wavy and not crystal clear during this time, but still beautiful. You have perfect conditions for kite surfing and sailing at the White Beach during this season. We also rent one of these traditional sailing boats and it was sooo much fun to sail on this beautiful blue-green sea.
